Blessing of Candles on 1 & 2 Feb

The Church celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on 2 February, commemorating the presentation of Jesus in the Temple, where an old man Simeon declared that Jesus would be “a light to enlighten the pagans” (Luke 2:32). It is in this recognition of Jesus being the light of the world that candles are blessed on this day, and the feast is also known as Candlemas. 

At St Mary’s, candles will be blessed at all weekend Masses celebrating this Feast on Sat 1 Feb and Sun 2 Feb. Please bring your own candles if you wish to have them blessed.
