Liturgical Art & Flower Ministry
Sight is the most immediate and powerful channel of experiences. Nature and art are two of God’s many expressions of love. Some say all good art is a form of active prayer, a way to speak what no words can describe.
The Liturgical Art & Flower Ministry was set up in March 2021 as another way to enhance worship - through art.
In the Franciscan spirit, we seek to use sustainable ways to decorate the church. We try as much as possible to recycle and up-cycle. An example would be the simulated stained glass pelican which was used for Mother’s Day and Feast of Corpus Christi. It is now in storage, awaiting its next appearance.
Old things are given a new lease of life. We made ‘crown of thorns’ with discarded branches and twigs and used it for the entire Lent season. We made drops of blood with pebbles gathered from the church premises. For Pentecost, we made ‘fire’ with light shone through the chunky coloured glass saved from a chapel renovation.
We hope those who enter the church will feel drawn closer to God by the liturgies in words and visual forms. As St John Paul said: “...while not everyone is an artist, everyone is invited to participate in beauty in order to be fully human.”
