RAMP Project
Level every mountain, make the rough ways smooth.
Isaiah 40:4
Exactly one year after we started raising funds at last year’s Feast Day to build an Access Ramp and side gate opposite Blk 287 near the market, this project is finally completed! Having just obtained approval from the relevant government bodies, our newly-constructed ramp is now open for use! The official Opening Ceremony will be held on our Feast Day, Friday 2 August at 5pm, and Mdm Rahayu Mahzam, MP for Jurong GRC will be officiating this occasion. Thereafter we will have our Feast Day Mass at 6.30pm. Do join us for this very special occasion!
For this year’s Feast Day, we will once again be raising funds to support the maintenance of our church grounds, buildings and structures, which are in great need of repairs, renewal and replacement. We appeal to your generosity once again to support our fundraising efforts.
WHAT is this all about? The Parish intends to build a wheelchair accessible ramp for those who struggle with steep steps as they enter the church from the nearby market & HDB blocks. Currently, there are only steps leading to the church at the existing “market” entrance. The only other wheelchair accessible ways are via the ramp from the bus stop or from the drop-off at the carpark. We are in the process of seeking approvals.
WHERE is the ramp located? A new entrance/side gate will be created opposite Blk 287 near the market and the ramp will lead to the same level as Gubbio (Level 1).
WHY there and not somewhere else? We have explored all possible options and access points and this is the most viable, straight-forward and cost effective option. We have considered elevators, escalators, a wheelchair staircase lift, parallel access from existing market entrance, alternative entrances and routes. We also have to consider factors such as the project eating into government land, underground sewerage pipes, complying with building regulations and restrictions, application & construction costs and fees.
WHEN will the ramp be ready? If all goes according to plan, the ramp may be ready by the end of 2023!
HOW much will it cost & How can I help? The estimated cost is from $150K to $200K. You can help by joining in our fundraising events or contribute directly to our Maintenance Fund. Any amount raised in excess will be directed to support the maintenance of the church.
