Catechetical Ministry (Catechists)
Are you Called to be a Catechist?
Do you feel called to teach or engage our youth?
To enable our youth catechism to be relevant in these post-covid times and in our continually evolving world we live in, the parish intends to upgrade the Secondary 1 to 3 catechism curriculum for next year, 2024. In preparation for this, we are inviting Adult Catechists who can teach and also develop curriculum to come join us.
The new approach for S1-S3 catechism aims to involve Junior Catechists, individuals aged 16 to 21, to augment the learning experience of our faith, and join in to work with our youths. A two-year formation programme will be provided for our Junior Catechists, to enable them to assist in facilitating experiential learning sessions.
If you are interested to be an Adult Catechist, we invite you to come and observe our 4 sessions of catechism classes (no obligation) before deciding your next steps. Come and experience first hand the work of our Catechists as they share the faith with our youth.
If you are aged 16-21 and interested to be a Junior Catechist, do sign up! Formation will be provided. We will inform you of our next Information Night session.
So, if you are interested in engaging the teenagers of our parish in their faith formation, we invite both adults and young individuals who have received their Sacrament of Confirmation, to take that first step and register by clicking the form below:

Becoming A Catechist
Our Catechists at St Mary’s!
What’s it like to be a catechist at St Mary’s? Come hear from our catechists themselves! Better yet, come join the team and help inspire and teach the young, and to journey those searching for answers and at the same time, learn and deepen your faith.
Echoing and Handing Down the Faith
“Catechesis” means echoing the faith, handing down the faith. Rather than teaching Jesus as a subject, it is about helping a person to forge a relationship with Jesus, to fall in love with Him, through a community. Thus, a catechist journeys with people and helps them discover that Jesus is the answer to what they are searching for in life. Catechists play an important role in imparting the faith to all, especially the young.
