St Mary’s Seniors

Mission Statement: To promote a purposeful, productive, healthy and happy lifestyle among Seniors.

St Mary’s Seniors started around June 2006 as an oasis for Seniors to come together to fellowship and live the Gospel values through purposeful, productive, healthy and happy activities. Through such activities, a strong bond has been fostered, leading the Seniors to care and connect beyond the physical gatherings.

Activities range from:

  • Visits to places of interest

  • Makan outings

  • Craftwork

  • Board Games

  • Sing-a-long with musicians

  • Talks & videos

  • Outreach & collaboration in Parish events

  • Celebrations of birthdays & festives

  • Pastoral work of bringing Holy Communion to the homebound

  • Rosary after each gathering

Staying Relevant During the Pandemic (when our activities are suspended)

This bond of camaraderie is even more apparent especially during this pandemic as the more able Seniors visit other Seniors who are living alone, or bring food to those who are unwell. When the situation improves, small lunch outings are organised for those experiencing loneliness, depression and cabin fever.

WhatsApp chats have been the daily source of communication and it is great that we still have our monthly Newsletter to keep us updated and connected. We certainly look forward to the day when we can resume our activities.

Meanwhile, stay safe, stay well & stay happy!

Archdiocesan Church Resources & Activities for Seniors

On Sunday 23 July, the church celebrated the 3rd World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. The archdiocese has shared the following resources available for our senior parishioners:

1) CatholicSG web page for the elderly, with resources and content: https://www.catholic.sg/participate/the_elderly/

2) Catholic Family Life (CFL) web page for the elderly, listing parish/district level events and activities: https://www.familylife.sg/AgingGracefullyEvent

3) CatholicSG Radio: On Thu 27 July 2023 at 8.30am, there will be an interview with John Ooi on "Psychological Challenges of Retirement and Aging", which will be in audio and video formats (https://radio.catholic.sg/show/the-bright-side/)

As our seniors and grandparents may not be so tech savvy in accessing the internet and web, we encourage younger family members, relatives and friends to help our seniors access or inform them of these available resources and activities.
